Fly Fish Ohio's 2009 Great 2- Weight Shoot-Out | Mystic M-Series

The Mystic M273-2 has been named the winner of Fly Fish Ohio’s 2009 Great 2-Weight Shoot-Out!

Their panel of experts awarded our 2-weight rod the highest combined score in the competition with an “amazing” 4.45 points out of a possible five. The reviewers fished 22 fly rods from eleven manufacturers with a variety of reels and lines and a range of conditions. Reviewer Paul Feldman says:

“There’s no question in my mind that I would leave the fly rod fairy a few brown trout scales for the Mystic M273-2. Mid Current Review: Mystic Tremor Salt Water 8-Weight

“Saltwater aficionados will appreciate the slightly over-sized line guides (both the gauge and diameter), but bear in mind that this is a light-weight rod built to handle more challenging small-to-mid-size permit, bonefish, jack, barracuda and snapper. My #8 even took a little unexpected abuse when I was caught off guard and unintentionally high-sticked a smallish jack. The rod survived, and I got a quick refresher on how not to handle a fly rod when fishing from a dock.

Rod designers and builders have been after the holy grail of rod dynamics for a long time: making that 4-piece feel and act like a one-piece. These days, several manufacturers have attained this goal, Mystic being one of them”
